What is MarkNote?

MarkNote is a Markdown note-taking app for Mac and iOS. It features live preview, iCloud sync, and support for advanced features like math equations and diagrams.

Storage & Sync

Where are my notes stored?

Mac local storage:

~/Library/Containers/marknote.MarkNoteMac/Data/Documents

iCloud sync: Notes are synced via iCloud's private database, keeping your data secure and synchronized across all your Apple devices.

How do I enable iCloud sync?

iCloud sync is enabled by default. Make sure you're signed into iCloud on all your devices with the same Apple ID.

Appearance

Can I change the font size?

iOS: MarkNote follows your system font size settings. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size to adjust.

Mac: Font size adjustment is not currently supported on the Mac version, but we're working on adding this feature.

Does MarkNote support dark mode?

Yes! MarkNote follows your system appearance settings on both Mac and iOS.

Technical

When you export to HTML and open the file directly in a browser (using file://), navigation links may not work correctly due to browser security restrictions. To fix this, you can:

  1. Use a local web server to serve the files
  2. Upload the files to a web hosting service

What Markdown flavors are supported?

MarkNote supports GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), plus extensions for:

  • Math (MathJax)
  • Diagrams (Mermaid)
  • Emoji shortcodes
  • Footnotes
